Southern Railway Bread Pudding.. Choo Choo!!

Choo choo!!! Trains aren’t known for their incredible food… but for dishes you can make in a small space that don’t take too many ingredients. Bread pudding is the most magical cheap dessert to make and is a real crowd pleaser. I made it for the railroad hunting lodge last week and they loved it…. Or they were just that polite J.

The Southern Railway Dining Car Bread Pudding

Grease sides and bottom of pudding pan, then dice bread placing layer on bottom of pan, sprinkle with sugar, raisins, and butter and a little cinnamon between each layer of bread until pan is full. Beat 2 eggs, with 3 cups of milk with a smidge of salt. Pour this over bread, let stand one hour. Cover and bake slowly for ¾ hour, then uncover and brown. Serve in fruit saucer underlined with doily and tea plate.

My notes:

  • Try 1 cup heavy cream, 2 cups milk

  • I used French bread but challah is also awesome

Spiced Whiskey Sauce

  • 1 cup (packed) golden brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

  • 1/2 cup Heavy cream

  • ¼ cup whisky

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Combine butter and sugar. Melt in a saucepan over medium heat till it combined. Add cream and whiskey. Stir thoroughly. Add cinnamon to taste.
